The Animal Response Team (ART) of the Palatine Emergency Management Agency (EMA) recognizes the critical need to keep all members of their teams current and active as a response organization. To that end, the ART continually participates in special events, and conducts training and exercises for its team members. Many of these opportunities occur regularly while others happen with very little notice. To find out more about ART events, please click on the link below which will take you to our website calendar. The calendar will show which events ART have upcoming as well as ALL EMA program and team activities.

We meet on the third Tuesday every month (except May and December) at 7PM in the EOC (Emergency Operations Center) at 200 E. Wood St. Please feel free to stop by.

February 13 - 14, 2010

NEW! The Humane Society of the US has a new Animal First Aid for Disaster Responders (AFADR) class and it's coming to Palatine. Just introduced in August, we will be among the first in the US to benefit from this training. It is a comprehensive look at issues we can expect to deal with in actual disaster/emergency situations. The class is run by emergency Veterinarians with plenty of hands-on field experience. If you are serious about helping animals in need during a crisis, you don't want to miss this. As soon as a link for registration is available, it will be posted here.

United Animal Nations EARS Training March 27 or March 28, 2010

Volunteers with United Animal Nations' Emergency Animal Rescue Service
(EARS) provide lifesaving care and sheltering for animal victims of natural
and human-caused disasters. Volunteers come from across the country and all walks of life, but they have one thing in common: a commitment to helping animals in need. Volunteer training workshops are coming to Palatine,
Illinois on March 27 and 28. Learn more about becoming an EARS volunteer
here: http://www.uan.org/index.cfm?navId=34

Please remember that in addition to CERT training and IS-100 and 700, participation on the Animal Response Team requires completion of IS-10, 11 and 111.  It is also recommended that you get involved volunteering at an animal shelter to improve animal handling skills and take the HSUS DART class – we will likely offer our in-house, abbreviated version this fall.  Questions?
