One of the most important traits of an effective emergency
response volunteer is being well trained. To that end the Palatine
Emergency Management Agency (PEMA), Palatine Citizen Corps and all
of its teams and programs insist that volunteers’ training is
relevant, consistent and current.
Every emergency response
volunteer whether working on a response team or in an administrative
capacity is required to take certain key training that puts everyone
on the same level of basic understanding. These classes include the
FREE 20½ hour FEMA Community Emergency Response Team (CERT)
training, ICS-100 the Incident Command System, ICS-700 the National
Incident Management System, and a one hour Orientation on the
Palatine Emergency Management Agency programs, teams and volunteer
opportunities.
The CERT training and Orientation are offered
six times a year at various times. (Click on the blue CERT Training
bar on our Home Page for more information on the CERT training.) The
ICS classes are FEMA online classes that only take an hour or two to
complete. You can find those classes at
www.training.fema.gov/emiweb/is/crslist.asp.Once completed,
the email confirming successful completion, or a copy of your
certificate, should be emailed to
EMA@palatine.il.us.
Besides the above training which is
required of each volunteer, additional team/program training
specific to a particular group may also be required. To learn more
about specific team training requirements, please make your request
for further information to
EMA@palatine.il.us.
